Thunderstorms are in our forecast Sunday through Tuesday throughout western Nevada, While it’s turned a bit cooler Sunday will arrive with lightning, heavy winds over northern California and Nevada. Storms will likely begin Sunday along the tops of the Sierra Nevada with the potential to push off into the Sierra front, which includes the Reno, Carson City, and Carson Valley areas. There’s even a chance of some small hail and flash flooding.
Showers and thunderstorms will likely develop Sunday afternoon across northeast California and into northern Washoe County. These isolated storms will initially produce little rainfall but will increase the risk of new fire starts. Strong and gusty winds will also be likely.
Thunderstorms could produce lightning along with locally heavy rainfall. Even flash flooding could pop up.
There is a forecasted series of thunderstorms that could let loose lightning blasts which could obviously cause wildfires. Farther south, more widespread showers and thunderstorm are likely — especially south of US-50. These weather blasts will be capable of generating localized flash flooding – especially across burned over terrain through Tuesday.
