A young man lighting up bottle rockets at the top of Kings Canyon Hill Sunday morning was admonished by Sheriff’s Deputies and Carson City Firefighters.
The boy had taken a lot of bottle rockets up the hill but the explosions got quickly out of control. A small brush and grass fire took off quite fast. Fortunately firefighters were fast summoned to the scene and chased down the burn with water and hung around long enough to be sure the fire was dead out.
Early summer sun, a brisk wind and dry vegetation can cause an entire side of a mountain to burst into huge flames – endangering motorists, hikers and nearby homeowners. This was a close call.
