Preliminary information indicates that on Thursday morning at around 8:15 am, School Resource Officers with the Carson City Sheriff’s Office assigned to the Carson City High School were notified of a student on campus with a firearm. The 14-year-old male was quickly disarmed and taken into custody. An investigation revealed that the student in question had pointed the firearm at others. However, the gun was never discharged.
The student was arrested by School Resource Officers and turned over to Carson City Juvenile Services pending charges of Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person (a minor), Possession of a Dangerous Weapon on School Grounds and Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
The parents of the minor have fully cooperated with the investigation.
Due to this case involving juveniles, the Sheriff’s Office is unable to provide additional information. There was every indication that the student acted alone and that it was an isolated incident. No students or staff were physically injured.
